
The Strangest Road in Perth - Post

This will be a bit on the shorter end, but there's a been a road that's bugged me for years and I've never found answers to it. Nestled in the middle of Greenwood and connecting Warwick Road with Hepburn Avenue, is a road that doesn't belong - Allenswood Road.
Straight away from Google Maps you can see that something is off - it's a residential road yet appears as an arterial road with its huge median strip. Going to street view, or just visiting the street in person, it also becomes incredibly obvious that the road was intended to be dual carriageway but has had the outer lanes changed to on-street parking.

The entire road just makes zero sense, like why is it the way it is? Once I posted about it on Reddit about it and someone replied that it was likely planned to be a major artery road before the freeway was built. This explanation makes the most sense and is probably the truth, but the fact that neither terminus continues as road in any form just rubs salt on the theory. Like with some roads you can clearly see where it was originally intended to continue, but there's nothing with Allenswood, just blocks of houses on either sideā¦
